As of late 2010 Swieqi will get its own bus network. This was published by the Mirnistry for Information Technology and Communication (http://mitc.gov.mt/) as part of a wider national public transport reform in October 2009. Call for tenders for a public transport reform for Malta were made on Saturday 17th October. The tender will be awarded in May 2009 and the service is expected to start in late 2010.
The internal bus network for the municipality of Swieqi (i.e. Part of St.Andrew's, Swieqi, Ta' L-Ibraġġ and Madliena) has been nick named "FL15 Swieqi". It is not know if this will be the route's name upon implementation because route naming will be the at the descretion of the contractor who wins the tender.
Maximum waiting time for a bus during peak hours will be 30 minutes while in off-peak hours the maximum waiting time will be 60 minutes.
As the Swieqi route is a feeder line prices for a 2 hour ticket cost €0.60 and a 1 day ticket costs €1.10 for adults. There are special discounts for children, students and the elderly.
The proposed network map for the municipalities of Swieqi can be found below.
